Information about the local and international English-language print and broadcast media that is available in Spain…
There are many options for those seeking English-speaking radio and television channels, as well as print publications, when living in Spain.
Radio
In Spain, it is possible to listen to the BBC World Service on short wave (European schedule), while the main BBC stations and other English-language radio can be received via many satellite TV installations.
Voice of America is also available on short wave.
Talk Radio Europe broadcasts English-language news, sport, current affairs and weather on several local frequencies, as well as online:
- Costa del Sol: 88.9 FM and 91.9 FM
- Sotogrande and Gibraltar: 98.7 FM
- Costa Calida: 92.7 FM
- Costa Blanca: 96.3FM, 96.4 FM and 96.3 FM
- Mallorca: 103.9 FM
Radio on the Internet: English-language stations online
Many international radio stations are available streamed live on the Internet. You typically need Real Player (a free version, called Real Player basic, is available on the real.com website). A feed is sometimes available in Windows Media, compatible with the players that have shipped with recent versions of Windows and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Television
There is no independent national authority in Spain that monitors broadcasting. At national level, there is an independent authority, the Telecommunication Market Commission (Comisión del Mercado de las Telecomunicaciones), which has some powers over the audiovisual sector.
- See their website (in Spanish).
However, the authority with the power to enforce most of the provisions related to Spanish broadcasting law is the State Telecommunications Secretariat (Secretaría de Estado de Telecomunicaciones, website in Spanish).
Most major publications are available online as well as in print. For a more portable digital version, apps like the Mail Plus App from the UK’s Daily Mail Group allow the latest news to be read on a phone or tablet, often for much less than the cost of a subscription.
The Broadsheet was established in 1983. It was originally a small publication, but became a monthly magazine with features on art, music, people and listings. Founded in Madrid, it expanded its coverage to include all of Spain in 1999.
